BEKB announces CEO departure

BEKB announces CEO departure

Hanspeter Rüfenacht, the CEO of Berner Kantonalbank (BEKB), will retire on 30 June 2019, the bank has announced alongside its half-year results.

Rüfenacht will celebrate 20 years at the bank next year, having started managing the credit line in 1999. He was appointed to the management board in 2002 and took on his latest role as CEO in 2012.

The announcement came at the tail end of a statement regarding the bank's half-year results, which included a mixture of positive and negative signals.

BEKB's assets under management were boosted by a net new money inflow of CHF  86.7 million, but this was offset by a negative market impact of CHF 368 million. The bank's total assets under custody fell from CHF 18.5 billion to CHF 18.2 billion year-on-year.

The bank also said that 'business success fell by CHF 14.2 million to CHF 65.5 million due to non-operating events'.

However, despite the loss, loans to customers increased by CHF 533.7 million and total assets grew by CHF 1 billion to reach CHF 30.3 billion.
