China equity specialist to leave Henderson

China equity specialist to leave Henderson

Caroline Maurer, manager of the Henderson Horizon China fund, is leaving the fund house after seven years.

The Citywire AA-rated manager will be replaced by Charlie Awdry, who currently manages several Chinese equity funds and mandates.

London-based Awdry assumes responsibility for the $167 million Luxembourg-domiciled fund and will report to Andrew Gillan, head of Asia ex-Japan equities.

Awdry, who takes over the position effective immediately, has more than a decade of experience investing in China equities, including in China A-shares as part of the QFII scheme.

He joined Henderson in 2011 as part of the Gartmore acquisition, where he was a key member of the emerging markets team since 2001.

Commenting on the appointment, Gillan said: ‘His appointment will provide focus to our Chinese equities offering, as we continue to build our Asian equities hub in Singapore, including the hiring of more locally-based China focused analysts to work with Charlie on this fund.’

Maurer joined Henderson Global Investors in 2007 as a research analyst for the Asia Pacific ex Japan equity team before becoming a portfolio manager.

Henderson Global Investors managed $124.15 billion of assets on behalf of clients in the UK, Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America at the end of September 2014.
