Credit Suisse launches Swiss small-cap fund

Credit Suisse has launched a mirrored version of its Swiss small-cap equity fund to reach a broader investor base beyond the borders of Switzerland.

The CS (Lux) Swiss Equity Opportunities fund is a new version of the CS (CH) Small Cap Switzerland Equity fund, both of which are run by Citywire AAA-rated Simon Goetschmann.

Speaking to Citywire Switzerland, Goetschmann revealed his top Swiss equity bets as he explained that Swiss equities have been increasingly in favour since the beginning of the year.

‘Our house opinion at the moment is that we overweight Europe compared to US equities, and we are positive on Swiss equities not only as a safe haven but also because of the high-quality, niche players in the small-/mid-cap segment.

‘Cyclical stocks had a very good run, so we are a little bit cautious now going into the second half of the year when it comes to cyclical industrial stocks.’

In comparison to the industrial and automotive sectors, banks and financials underperformed heavily, he said, meaning they have catch-up potential.

The fund is registered for sale in Singapore, Germany, Italy, France and Spain, and plans are in place to extend its reach to the UK.
