Ex-Swisscanto chief takes on new EMD job

Swisscanto’s former head of credit has been taken on by one of Switzerland’s largest insurers to develop its emerging market debt investment capabilities.

Mirko Santucci quit his post with Swisscanto in autumn 2012 after five years with the firm and has since joined insurance company and brokerage Suva in Lucerne.

In his new capacity, Santucci has been charged with overseeing the development of its emerging market bond team, with a specific focus on local currency debt.

Speaking to Citywire Global, Santucci said: ‘This is an area Suva wants to develop because we view emerging market bonds as an asset class for the future and we think, local currency in particular, is going to develop even more in the next three-to-five years.’

Santucci, who heads up a two-man team, will focus solely on internal mandates and investments carried out by Suva in his new role.

Upon leaving Swisscanto, Santucci was replaced Jérôme Benathan in the post of head of credit, while former BNY Mellon fund manager Christian Hantel assumed control of his global corporate bond fund.
