Geneva boutique asset manager QUAERO Capital has hired ex-SYZ alternatives head Michaël Malquarti as senior portfolio manager.
In his new role, Malquarti will manage the Long/Short European Equity fund, working alongside Cristofer Gelli in the management of asset allocation strategies.
Prior to that, Malquarti spent 11 years at the SYZ Group, during which time he held the role of head of manager research and alternative investments, senior portfolio manager and head of risk.
He left the Geneva group in 2016 just six months after being put in charge of the newly combined research and alternative investments unit at SYZ Asset Management.
Following his departure, the group hired Cedric Vuignier to head the team from June 2016 onwards.
This latest hire comes as part of a larger expansion at QUAERO Capital, which recently appointed Serge Ledermann to its board of directors and Francesco Samson as COO.
Commenting on the new hire, Jean Keller, CEO of QUAERO Capital, said: ‘Michaël’s experience in alternative investment and in the building of multi-asset portfolios will be a strong asset for our fund management team.’
On his new position, Malquarti said: ‘I am particularly enthusiastic about the idea of contributing to its development in an intellectually stimulating environment with a strong entrepreneurial culture.
‘It is the ideal working framework to fulfil investors’ expectations in a rapidly changing industry.’
