Aisa Ogoshi, JP Morgan Asset Management

Fund managed: JPM Pacific Equity

Aisa Ogoshi runs the Asian Pacific equity fund alongside Mark Davids and Robert Lloyd and is the first of the three to receive a AAA rating.

Ogoshi has spent 19 years at JP Morgan and been a portfolio manager on the Japan portfolio group since 2001.

Over the three years to the end of April, the JPM Pacific Equity fund has returned 46.57%. Its benchmark, MSCI AC Asia Pacific TR, returned 32.87% over the same timeframe.

Manish Modi, UBS Asset Management

UBS (Lux) Eq Fd - Asian Consumption (USD)

UBS’s Manish Modi is one the latest managers to earn a Citywire rating after consistently outperforming his peers in the emerging market equities sphere since the beginning of the year.

The Asian emerging market shares fund run by Modi was launched in 1993 and has an overweight of 40% in information technology, followed by 22.02% in financial services, according to the latest fund data on 28 April 2017.

The emerging Asia fund returned 47.21% over the three years to the end of April 2017, which compares to the benchmark MSCI EM Asia TR’s performance of 33.03% over the same period of time.

Thomas Jäger, St Gallen Kantonalbank

Fund managed: SGKB (CH) Fund Aktien Schweiz

Top Swiss equities performer Thomas Jäger has merited a AAA rating for his work on the St Galler Kantonalbank Swiss equity fund.

Launched in 2004, the strategy returned 35.09% over three years to the end of April 2017, while its benchmark, Swiss Performance Index TR, returned 19.71% over the same period of time.

Reto Hintermann, GAM Investment Managers

Fund managed: Julius Baer Inst BVG/LPP Flexible-CHF B1

One outperforming manager to watch in the mixed assets space is Reto Hintermann, who earned a AAA rating last month.

Hintermann is head of institutional mandates for Switzerland at GAM and has been running the mixed asset strategy since 2006.

The fund returned 10.97% over three years, compared with its benchmark, JB BVG/LPP Flexible’s 2.56% return over the same period of time.

Eric Lauri, Exane Asset Management

Fund managed: Exane Equity Select Europe A

One of the latest managers to join the class of the AAA rated is Eric Lauri, who manages a range of funds for Exane AM, of which the European equity select fund is available to Swiss investors.

Lauri has been with the group since 1999, having started his career as a long/short portfolio manager before spending two years at JP Morgan and returning to Exane in 2006. He has been running the fund since its launch in 2011.

The European equity fund returned 16.62% over the three years to the end of April 2017, while its benchmark, MSCI Europe TR EUR, had a performance of 10.98% over the same timeframe.

Maruf Siddiquee, Deutsche Asset Management

Fund managed: Deutsche Invest I Emerging Markets Corp USD LC

Head of emerging market credit at Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management, Maruf Siddiquee has been awarded a AAA rating for his outperformance on the emerging market corporates fund.

The senior portfolio manager has been with Deutsche AWM since 2009 and has been running the emerging market corporates fund since 2010.

The fund was launched in 2006 and has returned 33.46% over three years to the end of April 2017. Its benchmark, BofA Merrill Lynch EM Corporate Plus TR, had a performance of 27.54 over the same period of time.

Anthony Wong, Allianz Global Investors

Fund managed: Allianz China Multi Income Plus - AT - USD

Newly available in the Swiss market, Anthony Wong has a one month tenure on the Allianz China Multi Income fund but his track record is largely down to his outperformance on the Allianz China A-Shares fund.

Wong started to run the China multi income plus fund mid-March 2017 and runs the strategy, which was launched in 2009, alongside Citywire A-rated Helen Lam and Morgan Lau.

Over three years to the end of April 2017, Wong had a total return of 37.65% across all funds managed, compared with the average manager’s performance of 38.96%.

Frank Yao, Neuberger Berman

Fund managed: Neuberger Berman China Equity USD A Acc

Leading the way in the equity space for the Greater China region, Frank Yao is one of the latest managers to merit a AAA rating.

Yao joined Neuberger Berman Asia in 2008, where he is managing director as well as portfolio manager.

The Chinese equity fund returned 68.51% over the three years leading up to April 2017, compared with the 43.14% generated by the MSCI Zhong Hua TR USD over the same timeframe.

AB’s Tawhid Ali is now AAA rated for his performance on the range of European and global value equity funds he manages.

Ali first joined AB in 2003 and has been CIO of European Value Equities since 2012 as well as being appointed as portfolio manager of global and international value equities in March 2016.

Over three years to the end of April 2017, the global value portfolio returned 28.56%, while the benchmark FTSE World TR USD had a total return of 34.58% over the same period of time.

Topping the leaderboard for global equities over the past year, Burak Alici has earned himself a AAA rating.

Alici joined Morgan Stanley in 2007 and is now a managing director and portfolio manager on the growth team.

Over three years to the end of April 2017, the global equity manager had a total return of 62.17%, compared with the average manager’s performance of 24.87%.
