The Swiss regional banks have officially launched a new organisation, the Association of Regional Banks (VSRB), based in Bern.
The VSRB’s role is to represent the interests of the country's regional banks through a single organisation. The association aims to maintain diversity in the Swiss financial environment, taking into account the different business models and regulations of various regional banks. To do this, it will collaborate with the Swiss Bankers Association.
The VSRB, launched on 14 May 2018, has also created a platform that allows members to exchange information and research, as well as organising events and meetings.
The new association includes 58 institutions with a total of CHF 115 billion in assets.
Jürg Gutzwiller, CEO of Entris Holding, has been appointed head of the new association, while Marianne Wildi, CEO of Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, will serve as the vice-president.
Gutzwiller said: ‘The regional banks are already numerically an important part of the Swiss financial centre and make a major contribution to the diversity of competition, from which the customers of the banks benefit.
'It is important for the delivery of this entrepreneurial achievement that the regional banks now have their own association committed to providing optimal conditions.’
