SYZ AM poaches multi-asset specialist from Barings

The asset management arm of Swiss group SYZ, SYZ AM has appointed Hartwig Kos as co-head of multi-asset and deputy CIO alongside Citywire + rated Fabrizio Quirighetti, the company has announced.

Hartwig, who will take office on 15 October, will be based in London and will also assume the role of lead manager on the OYSTER Multi-Asset Diversified fund, currently managed by Quirighetti.

This is while Quirighetti will continue to manage the recently launched OYSTER Multi-Asset Absolute Return EUR and OYSTER Absolute Return GBP funds and the fixed Income strategies in Geneva.

The new manager joins from Baring AM where he co-managed the Baring Dynamic Emerging Market with Luca Dal Mas. At the end of 2014 Hartwig took over the Baring Euro Dynamic Asset Allocation fund from Christopher Mahon.

Commenting on the appointment, SYZ AM’s CEO, Katia Coudray, said: ‘I am pleased to have hired Hartwig Kos. He is an investment professional who is highly respected by his peers and his renowned experience in active allocation management adds value to our fund management team.’

Coudray, who was named CEO last June and also succeeded Xavier Guillon as head of OYSTER Funds, had immediately outlined growth in diversified absolute return strategies as a key goal.

Speaking at SYZ’s investor day in London in June, the CEO had also unveiled plans to hire two mixed-assets portfolio managers.

‘SYZ Asset Management has an excellent reputation and a convincing track record in the competitive field of multi-asset management,’ Kos said.

The OYSTER Multi-Asset Diversified fund has returned 25.95% in euro terms, which compares with a sector average of 24.16%.
