Citywire Geneva Early Stage Investment Forum 2015

Citywire Geneva Early Stage Investment Forum 2015

Citywire is launching a new thematic event in Geneva dedicated to early stage investments, which will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues on Tuesday 9 June 2015.

The event will be an opportunity for Swiss investors to meet a diverse range of portfolio managers for valuable new investment ideas across a wide array of asset classes.

Attendance is free of charge, but strictly limited to third-party fund selectors.

Workshop-based sessions in small groups will be taking place during the course of the morning with an excellent line-up of managers:

  • Ross Teverson, Jupiter Asset Management
  • Head of strategy, 'Global Emerging Equities – An Unconstrained Approach'

Emerging market equities are a broad and diverse opportunity set, in which some of the most compelling investments can be found amongst the less well known, mid-cap companies.

Teverson will explain that taking an unconstrained, benchmark agnostic approach results in a fund that looks very different to the benchmark and, in his view, offers clients an attractive proposition, not only in terms of return potential but also by diversifying some of the risks inherent in the benchmark.

He will provide a brief overview of the team, philosophy and process behind the fund and will bring the approach to life with some examples of stocks currently held within the fund.

  • Adrian Daniel, MainFirst Asset Management
  • Fund manager, Absolute Return Multi Asset Fund

  • Nick Davis, Polar Capital
  • Fund manager, 'European Income: The merits of high-quality equities in an uncertain world'

After four years of earnings stagnation, a combination of QE and easing fiscal policies point to a more encouraging outlook for European markets: the opportunity in Europe is back on investors’ agendas.

Fund manager Nick Davis and his team believe that high-quality companies paying reasonable and growing dividends are attractive in a low growth and return world. Companies’ dividend yields look attractive relative to their own corporate bonds and other asset classes.

Davis and his team would advise against simply chasing high optical dividends in the hunt for yield, or speculating in higher risk equities; instead, they take a longer-term view with an investment process focused on identifying the medium-term compounding power of businesses.

The Polar Capital European Income Fund strategy aims to deliver both income and attractive risk-adjusted capital growth. It has a high-conviction concentrated portfolio of 30-50 stocks, with a long-term focus on delivering strong risk-adjusted returns against the MSCI Europe Index.
  • Patrick J. McCafferty, Acadian Asset Management
  • Portfolio manager, Emerging markets small-cap equity strategy

  • Bernard Chua, American Century Investments
  • Client portfolio manager, Global equities

The event will also feature a thought-provoking and engaging session by our guest speaker Nicklas Bergman, early stage investor, serial entrepreneur and futurist.

An expert on emerging markets and technologies, he will offer an insight into global trends and the significance of these for investors. Nicklas will also discuss how to become successful early allocators and the learning lessons from other industries and sectors that can be applied to selecting the wide array of new funds that are reaching the market.
