Vontobel Asset Management has announced senior changes within its growth boutique as emerging markets veteran Rajiv Jain has resigned from the firm.
Citywire A-rated Jain will step down formally in May with the Swiss firm stating the fund manager intends to pursue his own ‘entrepreneurial plans’.
Matthew Benkendorf, who has worked alongside Jain across many strategies, will assume the role of CIO within the firm’s quality growth boutique, which is being left vacant by Jain.
Jain, who was profiled by Citywire Selector in the Star Manager feature in April of last year, had overseen several strategies at the group covering global, European and emerging market equity strategies.
Meanwhile, Donny Kranson will serve as lead on Jain’s former fund, the Vontobel European Equity fund and Brian Bandsma will take over on the Vontobel Far East fund, having previously served as deputy to Jain.
In his new role as CIO for Vontobel’s quality growth boutique, Benkendorf brings with him 20 years of investment experience, 17 of which have been spent with the Swiss group in its New York-based asset management arm.
During this time he worked closely with Jain to develop the quality growth investment process, as well as acting as a portfolio manager on several funds. In his new capacity, Benkendorf will continue to work closely with the firm’s investment team.
