BlackRock’s BSF European Opportunities Extension fund is managed by Citywire AAA-rated David Tovey.

Tovey started his career at BlackRock in 1998 as an analyst and later became a portfolio manager. He also manages the BGF Swiss Small & MidCap Opp and the BSF European Absolute Return funds.

Returns over the past three years: 45.8%

The fund aims to provide long-term capital growth through the use of an extension strategy. To do so, the fund’s assets are not only exposed to equities via long positions and synthetic long positions, but it also enters synthetic short positions to gain additional investment exposure.

Consumer staples: 7.82%

Consumer discretionary: 7.30%

IT: 5.49%

Materials: 0.20%

The fund’s biggest overweight is financials, at 40.47% compared with the benchmark’s 14.54%.

The top holdings include Lonza Group, Novo Nordisk and DCC. Assets are mostly allocated to the UK, Switzerland and Denmark.
