Raiffeisen Switzerland nominates BKB CEO as chairman amid board revamp

Raiffeisen Switzerland has nominated Basler Kantonalbank (BKB) CEO Guy Lachappelle as its chairman, along with four new directors.

Lachappelle has led BKB since 2013 and will depart for Raiffeisen at the end of October. According to a statement from BKB, Simone Westerfeld has been appointed CEO ad interim.

In a statement released by Raiffeisen, Lachappelle said: 'I am honoured that the board of directors of Raiffeisen Switzerland has placed its trust in me as chairman of the board of directors during a challenging period.'

Raiffeisen noted in the statement that this revamp is a 'significant step in the direction of a total renewal of the board of directors'.

The bank also nominated Karin Valenzano Rossi, Andrej Golob, Thomas Müller and Beat Schwab for election to the board.

Müller hails from EFG International, where he has worked as chief risk officer since January 2018. According to a statement from EFG, he will take up his new role on 9 November. A successor has not yet been appointed.

On 13 September, EFG announced a major management reshuffle of its own, naming Barclays UK COO Richard Thomas as CEO of EFG Private Bank. Roland Kempf was also announced as the new head of private banking for Zurich.
