Vaud government names new BCV chairman

The Vaud Cantonal Government has named Jacques de Watteville as the successor of Olivier Steimer, BCV chairman of the board.

Switzerland’s chief negotiator with the European Union since 2015, de Watteville has been appointed as chairman of the Banque Cantonale Vaudoise and will take on the role on 1 January 2018.

Steimer, who has held the position for 15 years, will step down on 31 December 2017.

From 1 September 2017, de Watteville will attend board meetings as an observer.

Between 2013 and 2016, de Watteville was state secretary for international financial matters in the Federal Department of Finance and has served as Switzerland’s official representative to a number of countries, including the European Union.

He is a Vaud resident born in Lausanne and was one of the four board members appointed by the Vaud Cantonal Government.

A spokesperson at the BCV said: ‘By choosing to join BCV as chairman of the board despite several other opportunities, de Watteville demonstrates his strong attachment to Vaud and the Vaud Cantonal Government, and the Bank would like to thank him for his choice.’
